It means no pics. no idea of origin, it was used on oppo well before I got here.

If I remember correctly, there was a user on Oppo that claimed he swapped a SR20 into his Lotus. He made posts about it frequently. Folks asked for pics, but OP never delivered. Hence, no SR20.

I was lurking when this was prevalent, like “GTFAC” so I’m sure older Opponauts will chime in if I’m wrong.

I haven’t been around these parts long enough to know the exact origins either. However I did gather that way before our time there was apparently some guy bragging about an SR20 swapped Lotus Elise, but said commenter could never reinforce his claims with visual proof. Hence “SR20” as a reference for a lack of pictures.

There used to be someone here who went by the name of SR20 who claimed to have all kinds of wild, high end sports cars, and an SR20 swapped Lotus. No matter how often other Oppos begged for pictures of these amazing vehicles, Mr. SR20 refused or claimed his camera was broken or used whatever other excuse he could pull out of his ass. As it turned out, Mr. SR20 was full of shit. Now, whenever we want to see photographic evidence of something (whether it be to verify the truth or just because the car in question is pretty) we ask for SR20.

It’s essentially the Oppo version of “pics or it didn’t happen.”

sr20spitfire was his online “handle”. Guy was an idiot, probably a kid. No sr20 is still stupid, no pic, no photo, no anything else is acceptable. Why memorialize an idiot?

Actually, none of those are true. But all are close. The user was “SR20 Spitfire” which makes a bit more sense when you think about it, certainly more sensible than putting an SR20 into a Lotus Elise. The Lotus was simply what he claimed to have purchased, then wove an elaborate tale about giving rides to cops, etc. All while telling people that his mom lost his camera and couldn’t afford a new one. As for the SR20 Spitfire, he actually DID provide pictures of that project, but I think he wound up dropping the project for cost.

Because he was actually a really good guy, and a good commenter. He just made one (pretty rough) error in judgment. He made up for it, and the nickname is more of an homage, and a reminder to not be suckered by faceless bragging on an internet forum.

Also, GTFAC = Go To Fuck A Camel. Nonsensical insult from a former Italian commenter (forget his name now) to a mod during an argument. Guy was a pretty active troll, but the GTFAC wound up getting himself banned, and the rest of us a funny insult.

Kind of. The guy’s user name was “SR 20” and he bragged about his elise. Then one day he said the cops pulled him and let him off because he mentioned jalopnik. then people started asking questions, and eventually it came out he was lying.
